ASSISTANT FARM OPERATIONS MANAGER – Abbotsford, BC

Are you a hands-on leader with a passion for operations and agriculture? Our family-owned farm is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Farm Operations Manager to join our team. In this key leadership role, you will oversee all aspects of our farming operations, managing crews, coordinating field and warehouse activities, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and horticultural quality.

For nearly a century, our family-owned and operated Canadian business has proudly produced premium horticultural products. As our next Assistant Operations Manager, you will work closely with the owner to manage, and eventually succeed, the leadership of a team of 25–50 employees across our fields and warehouse in Abbotsford.


The Ideal Candidate

  • A natural leader: Proven ability to train, motivate, and manage field crews while fostering a positive, safe, and productive work environment.
  • Highly organized: Skilled in logistics, planning, and coordination, especially during peak seasons.
  • Experience: Background in horticulture, agriculture, or farm operations is an asset.
  • Multilingual: Ability to speak Spanish and/or Punjabi is an asset.
  • Education: A post-secondary degree is an asset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Crew Management: Lead, train, and support seasonal and year-round crews; maintain strong communication and teamwork.
  • Operational Support: Assist the owner with the daily management of farm and warehouse operations.
  • Field Operations: Plan and oversee field tasks such as planting, pruning, cultivating, and harvesting to ensure quality and efficiency.
  • Productivity & Strategy: Develop strategies and relationships that improve productivity and workflow.
  • Project Planning: Manage projects from concept to completion, including new plantings and farm improvements.
  • Operational Planning: Create and implement strategies to enhance yields, maintain quality, and optimize resources.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate production and labor records for planning and decision-making.
  • Staff Management: Oversee hiring, scheduling, payroll coordination, performance reviews, and discipline.
  • Safety Leadership: Serve on the Health and Safety Committee and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements.
  • Quality Control: Enforce consistent quality standards in all processes.
  • Packing & Logistics: Participate in packing and preparing perennials for shipment as needed.

Required Skills & Attributes

  • Experience in operations, farm management, or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach.
  • Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, with flexibility during peak seasons.
  • Ability to multi-task and a willingness to “get your hands dirty.”
  • Spanish and Punjabi language skills are an asset.
  • Post-secondary education is an asset.
