Farm Equipment Mechanic and Field Worker
We are a family owned and operated Canadian business that is proud to have been producing high quality horticulture products since 1928. We are looking for a farm equipment mechanic / Tractor driver for our farm in Sumas, BC. The successful candidate will manage most of the maintenance of our farm equipment and machinery and assist with the 3 major plantings and harvestings that take place annually – perennial planting in March, April and May; bulb planting that takes place in September and planting of cover crops when the fields aren’t in production.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical background and experience with various types of heavy machinery. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety standards. The Equipment Mechanic will work with a variety of farm machinery, while also being adept at operating machinery to assist with farm work.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment fleet.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify potential problems before they escalate.
- Troubleshoot, repair, overhaul and maintain farm equipment
- Utilize hand tools and power tools for assembly and repair tasks.
- Keep current on repair procedures and developments in the equipment industry
- Maintain accurate records of repairs and maintenance performed on equipment.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Maintain repair logs and associated repair costs for each machine
- Maintain, re-stock and keep parts inventory
- Operate equipment in the field in season
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations while operating heavy machinery.
- Other duties in warehouse and fields as required
Skills
- Proven mechanical experience with industrial equipment
- Strong mechanical knowledge, including automotive repair skills.
- Experience with welding and assembly tasks is preferred.
- Willingness to learn new technologies and techniques related to equipment maintenance.
- Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications
- Experience in troubleshooting and setup of GPS systems
- Computer literacy and willingness to keep up with technological developments
- Tractor Driving experience is an asset
- Must be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision
- Must work well in a small team
- Fluency in English
- Farm background beneficial
- Must be physically fit with a desire to work outside
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Post secondary education is an asset
